Richard Paul Robertson, 85, Meyersdale passed on August 19, 2024 at his home after battling diabetes for decades. Richard was born July 22, 1939 in Meyersdale. He is the son of Wilma L. and Paul M. Robertson. He is survived by his wife of 59-years Doris D. (Peck), two children; Tina E. Dorsey, married to Robert Doren, of New Cumberland, Pa. and Douglas P. Robertson, married to Aimee (Shipley), of Meyersdale. Two grandchildren; Lindsey B. and Kyle D. Robertson, both of Meyersdale who he thought the world of, sister, Jean L. Johnson of Burnham, Pa. and his best fur-friend, “Lily”, who was always by his side. He was preceded in death by parents, granddaughter Courtney Paige and brother-in-law, Robert “Luke” Johnson. Richard wasn't afraid of a little work. He started working at the age of 8 delivering papers. He delivered papers until his senior year when he gave up his paper route and started to work at Twigg's Bakery receiving 50 cents per hour. There he worked with the baker Teddy Dixon making around 280 loaves of bread daily and twice a week making donuts for which Twigg's Bakery was famous. After graduating from Meyersdale High School in 1957, he worked in Ohio at Ford Motor Company until being laid off and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. A proud Army Veteran (1958-1961), he served in Korea where he was first assigned to a repel depo and then I Corps, on the line, spending eight months on patrol at the DMZ and then stateside with a STRAC unit until discharged. Richard worked 41 years in the insurance industry and was owner of the Konhaus-Robertson Ins. Agency in Meyersdale where he retired in 2001. He was a devoted 35-year member and past President of the Meyersdale Volunteer Fire Company. He was also a member of Meyersdale Lodge 554 Free and Accepted Masons, The Meyersdale Elks Lodge, and the Meyersdale American Legion. A talented craftsman he enjoyed woodworking when he had the opportunity and was an avid collector of Beer Steins. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. Family and friends will be received on Monday, August 26, 2024 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at M. Ray Leckemby Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home with Pastor Andrew Broucher officiating. Interment Meyersdale Area Union Cemetery.
