Lee (Bud) Cornelius Yoder

Lee (Bud) Cornelius Yoder, born June 5, 1933 to Ervin J. and Mabel M. Yoder of Meyersdale, Pa, died January 8, 2024. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nona Hartsburg (Prentice), Vera Yoder (Clark), and two brothers, Paul (Naomi Bender) and Creed (Miriam Bender). He is survived by his brother David and a large number of nieces, nephews and cousins. As a baby Bud was diagnosed at Johns Hopkins University Hospital as a very challenged individual with the prediction that he would never walk, talk or see. With the unceasing love and care of parents, doctors, nurses and God’s blessing, he met the challenges and overcame the predictions with courage, faith and an unfailing sense of humor. Bud had an excellent ear for music and—unable to read or write—memorized the words of countless hymns and spiritual songs. His bass rang out strong and true in family singing and at church, and even in the hospital room. On the farm he stacked hay bales, fed calves, herded cows and helped in the barn and on the grounds. He developed a love for art as an adult, spending hours applying color to hundreds of drawings. When a brain aneurysm confined him to 24-hour care at Kamps Personal Care Home he was able to be content with what he had, often expressing pleasure at helping others as well as gratitude for the care he received. He moved to Goodwill Mennonite Home in 2018, where he was loved by both staff and residents. Bud will be remembered by all who knew him as kind, caring, generous, cheerful, and focused on those around him. He was baptized as a youth at the Oak Dale Mennonite Church and loyally claimed that fellowship as his own until his death. Viewing Thursday, January 11, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, Oak Dale Church, 9201 MasonDixon Hwy, Salisbury, PA. Funeral service directly following, at the church. All are invited to lunch afterward. Interment will be at the Old Oak Dale Church Cemetery, Oak Dale Road, Salisbury.
