James “Jim” Robert Miller

James “Jim” Robert Miller, 76, of Herndon, Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, at Fair Oaks Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Born on November 10, 1949, in Frostburg, Maryland, Jim grew up in the close-knit community of Pocahontas, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Meyersdale High School, he dedicated himself to serving his country, first joining the Army Reserves and later embarking on a long and distinguished career with the Army Map Service, later renamed National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). While working, he continued his education at George Washington University, a testament to his lifelong commitment to learning. He retired as a contractor for Northrop Grumman in 2018 .
To those who knew him best, Jim was a man of remarkable depth. He was fiercely intelligent, thoughtful, and unfailingly loyal to his family. Outside of his professional life, Jim found great joy in the outdoors and working with his hands. He was an avid hunter, a patient gardener, and a talented craftsman who took pride in the things he created.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Hilda Miller, and his infant brother, Buddy.
His legacy of strength and kindness lives on through his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Karen Miller; his children, Megan Parrish and her husband Bradley, Erin Miller, Cody Miller, and Kevin Miller; and his beloved granddaughter, Charlotte Cook.
